Waves

Ten thousand tonnes of water

Crash against the shore

And that was just a little wave

No one cares anymore.

No one cares, no one sees

It happens all the time.

And that’s a loss for everyone,

Apathy’s the crime

Apathy, lest we forget

Is looking with closed eyes

Listening, but not hearing

Ignoring others cries.

Ignoring things around us

Our loss and not our gain

We can’t keep coming back like waves

No time to try again.

Coffee

How can it be, that my morning starts with coffee?

It could be the sunshine, hidden by the shades.

It could be that I’m 6000 miles from home,

Could it be, they don’t do tea?

More likely that here you wouldn’t think,

To ask for anything else.

Even the second cup tastes good,

But not as good as the orange.

Kiss or Conversation

Was it the kiss or the conversation,

That caused that special beat.

My heart working overtime, again.

Was it the openness, the vulnerability,

Or perhaps the great strength.

That ability, a very special ability,

To put people at their ease,

Yet create a tension,

That generates strong feelings

In those with a heart.

But passes over those without.

An ability to produce in all things

A desire to stay close

For fear of losing a precious thing,

A special friendship

A warm glow in a cold hard world.

And if life is fair, for which I offer no guarantee,

Then from all those to whom your presence

Is a strong clear light

The donation of a single spark will,

Through the love we feel

Help light your troubled way

Relieve a heavy burden

Smooth a long road.

All these things take time

But we have time

All we need is patience.

Lost Time (Flights of Fancy)

An airport lounge, full of stale air.
Air-conditioned by aeroplanes
Journeys to nowhere, somewhere, anywhere
But the question remains how to pass the time
How to pass my time.
Catch that conversation, follow that face
Kind words and smiles, but not for me.
Wanting to be part of the crowd
Or to be alone with my thoughts.
My mind travels by the power of imagination
While my eyelids close, body numb from inactivity.
Flight calls for exotic locations stimulate the mind
While the pretty girls stimulate the body.
Again I journey on a flight of fancy.
Forgetting the time, the time that must pass,
Before I hear my call and a flight to take me home
But the lounge is not empty
Others must breathe the stall air
Suffer the lost time.

There’s a Time

There’s a time to say no,
To just pause for thought.
To cut down the risk of the pain.
To say to a friend the way that you feel,
Of course it’s OK to abstain.

So let things develop
As relationships grow.
With no pressure, let’s not force the pace.
There’s lots of exploring and growing to do.
A pause to think is no disgrace.

Though life’s a short journey
There’s time to enjoy,
So unto thine own self be true.
The sign of a true friend, if it’s sign that you need,
Is that they can have respect for you.

If Only

The gravestone said “If Only”
A name, some dates in time.
The message tells a story
I hope it isn’t mine.

Don’t miss life’s opportunities
But take them when you can
Ad-lib and take some chances
‘don’t always need a plan.

Too short to plan in detail
Life should be lived in full
A life needs some excitement,
And that should be the pull.

Play people at their own game.
For games it is we play.
Meet people on your own terms
And you may win the day.

Don’t worry what a stranger thinks,
It’s you they’ve come to see.
They want to meet the real you,
Not your idea of me.

Relaxed, you learn to be yourself,
To put yourself at ease.
Enjoy what life throws at you,
Don’t always try to please.

If people see you at your best.
You never need be lonely.
And words they carve upon your stone,
Will never read “If Only.”

4.15 am

It’s four – fifteen, on a summer’s morning
I’ve woken up, without a warning.
The tick of the clock that’s in the hall,
Is what I hear, I’m sure that’s all.
The window’s open, there’s no bird song.
I hear no traffic, where’s it all gone.
No cats meow and no dogs bark,
It’s not yet light and yet not dark.
‘Twas just a dream that broke my slumber
I’ll sleep again, I’m sure … I wonder.

Loving and Giving

From the sound of soft breathing
I sense that you’re here
Eyes closed, nerve ends tingling
The future is clear.

The counting of buttons
The silk softly sighs
A buckle that rattles
A zipper that cries.

Your hair as it swings free
Just catches the light
From a pool at the bedside
That keeps back the night.

That scent and its message
Round the room, starts to flow
Adds tension to senses
As our skin starts to glow

Controlling the tension
Try to stay calm
Then a flash out of nowhere
Hair brushes my arm.

A rush of cool air
Runs from shoulder to toe
You settle beside me
Thoughts of secrets we know.

An arm reaches out
Caresses the skin
Focus attention
Let the loving begin.

The softer the touch
The greater the tension
Erogenous zones
All receive attention.

Loving and giving
Pleasures to share
Make love to each other
By showing we care.

The sexual act,
Is just procreation
A convenient way
To increase the nation.

But giving yourself
Is a gift beyond measure
With the one that you love
The true sharing of pleasure.

When hearts are united
As bodies entwine
It shows that love’s special
And it’s yours and it’s mine.

No Right

You have no right to ask how I feel
To feign concern after all the pain
To just pretend that nothing happened
Or believe warm feelings can remain

There is no doubt the pain has faded
No longer anger every day
Eventually may come forgiveness
But can’t forget, the memories stay.

Time will turn the pain to laughter
I can become stronger still
Find fulfilment you couldn’t give me
And find a better life, I will.

Don’t concern yourself with my life
I shall not consider yours
You made decisions you must live with
Without a thought of hurt you’d cause.

Two separate lives with just one link
It’s only children that we share
If you won’t consider any others
Always show them that you care.

Beauty

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder
But just close your eyes
Other senses are bolder
If you try it you’ll see

Draw your fingertips over the skin of a peach
The nape of the neck
And that’s beauty they teach
If you try it you’ll see

Break open a loaf of new baked bread
Hold a child in a towel
And with beauty you’re fed
If you try it you’ll see

Sip fresh dew from a new blade of grass
Bite a crisp apple
Now, that’s beauty with class
If you try it you’ll see

Open your ears to the waves on the shore
To the whisper of rain
Now you’ve found some more
If you try it you’ll see

Beauty surrounds us our whole life long
Keep your senses aware
You’ll find I’m not wrong
If you try it you’ll see
